The furniture of Wesley Spears would fall into the category of “there’s nothing new under the sun”. Now why would somebody who is trying to get a audience of onlookers say such a statement?
Since the earliest times man has been stacking rocks on top of each other to make a chair to sit on. We "more civilized people" have categorized them into such words as rustic, modern, Queen Anne, and such the like. So take a look at the “art furniture” of Wesley Spears.
The use of exotic woods in my furniture is always on my mind, as that affords me a larger selection of colors and patterns to work with. Since I do my own staining, coloring and finishing of my pieces, I am able to have a broad selection in my pallet. I do have a signature style on some of my table’s legs that I call the “bent tension” system. It has taken 6 years of working with this bent tension system to perfect the leg system where it could be used with confidence. It affords me with another tool to draw from.
I use pre-catalyzed lacquer to finish my furniture with, as I believe in the life time of the piece will afford the owner better perfection of the wood. Since I am into “if you can’t use it” don’t have it around, I try to provide the user with the best materials that will give them many years of use with little maintenance.
